National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrated at Dease Lake

Galore Creek was honoured to attend the National Indigenous Peoples Day gathering at Dease Lake to celebrate with community members the unique culture, people and traditions of the Tahltan Nation. Importantly, Indigenous Peoples Day is a valuable opportunity for our team to reaffirm our respect for the rights, values, knowledge, and many contributions made to the Galore Creek Project by Tahltan people, and especially to build on our relationship with Tahltan Nation.

We enjoyed talking with youth, community leaders and Elders about what is special to them about their territory and traditions, and how we can help to preserve traditions and values and support the communities. It was truly special to see the kids embrace the day’s activities and play stick gambling games all afternoon with endless enthusiasm. Having been unable to engage and attend events in person for the past two years we were delighted to take the opportunity to be back in the community.

Thank you to the Tahltan Central Government organizers for inviting members of our staff to help set up and attend the event, and again giving us the opportunity to spend time among your communities and traditions.
